Full details for Whitbread
The notorious destroyer of independent breweries. Often referred to disparigingly as 'Twitbread', a fact apparently beyond the wit of one individual who emailed to abuse me for 'mis-spelling' it in my comments. His comments are unfit to repeat here, but the irony of being abused for a 'spelling error' by an illiterate was not lost on me. Swallowed by Interbrew in 2000, although it has been reported in Independent Imbiber that the Lass O'Gowrie remains with Whitbread. It may be that some other brewpubs also remain with the company. The first edition of the Good Beer Guide reported 'Several regional brews still retained without gas - but quality varies.'
